$PYREX$ loaf pan 212

Post by Bonnie Scott »

Today I found the $ Pyrex 212 for $3.50 at an antique store. My lid does not fit it. I think the refrigerator dish must have come after this one. The mystery continues. I really like this dish however. I like the imperfections in the molding that happened before they perfected the process. They add character. It's also around twice as heavy as a newer 212. I also score the biggest pyrex lasagna pan I have ever seen in my life for $1, it says 234 on it and it doesn't look very old.

212 is a loaf pan, and as such, should not have had a lid made expressly to fit it.

Here is a picture of the 212 refrigerator dish with lid. Apparently they couldn't find a lid for the square version.

I don't usually think of the old version of the numbers that got reused for more recent models.

Truth be told, after saying yesterday that I would be patient, I in fact was not. Not more than half an hour after typing those words I got on ebay and bought this. If you look closely at the rim you can see the groove where the lid fits in.

The old pieces of Pyrex I collect are usually pretty easy for me to spot in a pile of glassware because of the yellow color. I have always thought it was from age and that maybe if I soaked them in bleach they would clear up. Today I read the 1920 factory standards list and saw on the front cover "Retains it's natural golden color" I guess I can stop scrubbing now.
