I found another example of this dish at the CMOG website. The only date it is giving is 1900? Do you think it is from the 1930s as the seller suggested?

Hard to say. Engraved pieces spanned the 20s and 30s. That it came with a metal mounter could suggest it was made for a third party and is why it's not seen in Pyrex catalogs of the period.

I think some BKF and a magic eraser will do wonders for the dish and the stand.

I don't see it in the Items Most Frequently Metal Framed catalog nor in the 100 New Shapes one, either. The handle on the cover is not typical for clear Pyrex.

That is why I like it so much. It's unusual. The CMOG site says they don't have it on display so I am wondering if this is a piece that Dianne Williams wasn't willing to part with?

The patent on the dish design was Farber's, so apparently Corning made it in Pyrex for Farber but it was not Pyrex per se.

Thank you, it looks like 1930s is correct. I'm glad no one else was interested in it. I think it ran for a couple of weeks because the seller was quick to take my half price offer.

I didn't really know what a battery jar was so I did a little research. I guess this would be considered really old Pyrex but I think these still had lead in them so I wouldn't use them as canisters. Still it is a cool example of craftiness, plus the photos have a nice picture of the makers mark.

Lead had to be removed from the Nonex formula before it could be used to make Pyrex cookware. I would suppose the canisters could be used for dry items like rice or pasta without issue.
